Medical-grade silicone
Silicone is soft, flexible, and smooth. It is non-porous, which means bacteria cannot harbour in the surface, making it easier to clean thoroughly. Silicone is compatible with water-based lubricants but not silicone-based ones. It is one of the most commonly used materials in quality intimacy products.
ABS plastic
ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is a hard, rigid plastic used in the body of many vibrators and the firm portions of products that combine silicone with a firmer structure. It is non-porous, easy to clean, and compatible with both water-based and silicone lubricants.
Borosilicate glass
Borosilicate glass is non-porous, extremely smooth, and compatible with all lubricant types. It can be warmed or cooled for temperature play. It is heavier and firmer than silicone or plastic, which some people prefer.
Note Avoid products that do not list their materials, or that use terms like "skin-safe" without specifying composition. Reputable brands are transparent about what their products are made from.
